G is for Gina and Girls!

Unbelievable!!! Last night it hit me... like a lightning bolt... actually lots of lightning bolts... and thunder!  It was storming like crazy in the middle of the night and it woke me up right before 2 a.m.  For some reason my brain clicked on, you know how it does when you have a lot on your mind? I could not go back to sleep for anything! So I start thinking, watching the beautiful display of lightning as it flashes all around the room.

I'm a long-time scrapbooker, I started when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter and she's 13 now.  I've always been interested in crafting and have tried pretty much all kinds of crafts.  I've also always been interested in photography and loved taking pictures, even as a little girl.  When I started scrapbooking I realized that the quality of my pictures could be so much better!  Not just snapshots like I had always done but really good images that conveyed a feeling and were interesting!  That's when I discovered a "good" camera (DSLR) and I haven't looked back since!  The most appealing thing to me about scrapbooking was the fact that I was capturing memories, not just in a factual way, but in a thoughts, feelings and dreams kind of way.  I was recording, through images and words, what I thought, felt and dreamt about for my girls.  I loved that as I created a page and shared it with my girls that they were excited to see it and proud to share it with their friends.  I've also learned how important it is to include pictures of yourself and to hand someone else the camera once in a while (or often!) so you can be in pictures WITH your children!  I lost my father when I was 9 and I can only remember a couple of photos of myself with him....believe me, your children will TREASURE the photos of you with them.

I've realized that my interests of Scrapbooking, Photography and now Blogging are a perfect fit and I think it's so cool that we can leave a written and visual gift to our children and that through these words, they might actually learn who we are!

Please feel free to share your comments and stories about scrapbooking, photography and blogging and what it means to you :)

I'm entering this post in Jenny Matlock's "Alphabet Thursday" for the letter G, because obviously my name begins with the letter G (and this post was about me) and I have 3 beautiful girls........ Be sure to check out all the other cool posts on Jenny's Blog :)

You are so right about being in the pictures. For a long I just wasn't. And then when I was, I made funny faces. And then it hit me. One day they will want to see pictures with me in them, and they might wish I had not made goofy faces every time. So, I smile and oblige. I don't always like the outcome, but my kids love it.

This post makes me think I ought to get family portraits done with my parents when I go home next time. I don't think I've got anything with them and me together since my wedding nearly 4 years ago!

That is a great point about getting in the pictures with the kids -- how many times do we get through a holiday or other special occasion and realize that mom took all the pictures, and never got in any of them?

I love using my blog as a scrapbook with lots of fun memories. La

I am always behind the camera instead of in front of it and that works for me!

My daughter in law has gotten into photography now, so that may change.

I know you're right about letting others take MY picture occasionally but I usually hate the way I look in them... sadly, it's probably the real me. Oh well!

Seems as if you have fallen into the perfect trio with photography, scrapbooking & blogging : )

Your senior pic sessions look like such fun! Too bad you're not near by - my daughter is a senior.

Very nice to see how the girls have grown up. This was a great "G" post. I haven't been able to participate in Miss Jenny's class since the letter A!! Maybe this week!

Gina, gee, I wish you were closer. I keep thinking we need to do a family portrait but I think flying you out here might be a bit cost-prohibitive!

I liked reading your philosophy on being in pictures. One of my favorite posts I've ever written was about that exact same subject.

Thanks for linking to Alphabe-Thursday.

This was a GGGGGrrrreat visit.

A+
